Mousetrappe, now over two years old as an official company, is the culmination of a career's journey in the pursuit of "building better media". This Summer Mousetrappe has chosen to really return to its roots by re-focusing on Themed Entertainment productions.
I remember my earliest influences as a child growing up in Southern California and how those experiences turned into a lifelong desire to be a part of the Industry and to create compelling and ground-breaking media. Specifically I recall watching a multimedia (back then on 16mm film and about 32 slide projectors) at the former Busch Gardens park in Van Nuys. I was enthralled with the wide screen and the combination of multiple images playing back in synchronization with each other and with a soundtrack. I wanted to do the same. By age 10 I was creating my own multimedia shows with slides, lights, puppets, and a custom soundtrack I had created. By age 14, with the introduction of the Apple II computer I had added color "cgi" graphics and was experimenting with show control. My career continued and I began to learn and produce both video and music.
In 1989 I met Mike Davis, then Director of Entertainment at Disneyland. Meeting him reminded me of my earliest desires, which was to be a part of creating those "magical" experiences at Disneyland. From 1990 through 1998 I realized that dream and during my later years there I contributed to the content creative and technical production of shows like Fantasmic! at Disney-MGM Studios, multiple parades and stage shows, and the new classic makeover "It's A Small World Holiday". Since leaving Disney I've been able to work on projects for all of the Universal parks, several casino/resorts, and other deeply immersive media exhibits and presentations for Themed Entertainment and image-conscious corporate clients.
In 2005 my partner Ken Murphy and I chose to launch Mousetrappe to better focus our skills and business on Video Design and Content Creation, having left a company with a broader focus on online media and corporate productions. We chose the name "Mousetrappe" to first represent our commitment to "building a better mousetrap" with respect to visual media - and with a not-so-subtle reference to our collective histories with "The Mouse". During the past two years Mousetrappe has successfully delivered and improved on the design and creation of video content both online and in exhibit/attraction spaces.
And yet somehow I felt a little unfulfilled and realized that I still had a broader focus than I really wanted. Once again I remembered my "first love" of Themed Entertainment. Frankly, Mousetrappe had not yet put enough focus on this area to be as effective as I wished.
Over the past month I've made a firm commitment to change that, and effective immediately Mousetrappe will dedicate itself to developing Themed Entertainment productions and contributing to the Themed Entertainment industry.
We will continue to service our online shows distributed by Meredith/Better Homes & Gardens, and our main corporate clients Epson and Toshiba as they represent the pinnacle in high-end imaging products and the experience benefits all of our productions. But, moving forward we will dedicate ourselve to serving Themed Entertainment Producers with the highest quality Video Design and Content Creation services available.
Mousetrappe offers a unique proposition to the industry. We bring the right "outside" resources and talent, from Hollywood and elsewhere, and assemble them into a team that creates extraordinary visual media for each unique special venue, attraction, live entertainment, theatrical, and exhibit show. More than just a video production company, we are visionary designers of video and media and know how to make things work right - both creatively and technically.
I'm excited about what we will create with this new-found focus and revitalization.
