Daren Ulmer
Daren Ulmer is the President and Chief Creative Officer at Mousetrappe, an Experiential Media Design firm in Pasadena, California. Daren provides high-level creative development and direction of intricate media designs and productions, capitalizing on his ability to embrace technology and drive it to create superior experiences. Daren is the “missing link” between creative and technical disciplines in today’s complex media-based projects. Daren was the driving force behind the look, visual effects, and overall media design and production of Beyond All Boundaries at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
Daren’s career includes nearly 10 years with The Walt Disney Company, working in various creative, management, and production roles. His duties at Disney included developing entertainment and educational experiences for all of the theme parks and for special events worldwide. While at Disney, Daren’s creative technology skills were applied in critical projects such as entertainment management and scheduling solutions, the 1994 development of the original Disneyland.com website (a precursor to Disney.com), and the improvement of show control and media playback systems for rides such as It’s a Small World, world-famous Disney parades, and large scale shows including Fantasmic! and Light Magic.
In 1998 Daren departed from Disney to join Audio By The Bay Entertainment Group, a production company providing media, music, and audio production, show control design, and creative development to Disney, Universal, Warner Bros. and Busch theme parks, as well as to corporate clients. He served as producer, creative director, and technical design consultant for major show and attractions at Universal Studios Japan & Hollywood, Islands of Adventure, Sea World’s Discovery Cove, Tokyo Disneyland, Sesame Street Live!, and for major automotive launches/exhibits for Nissan and Infiniti.
Daren and Mousetrappe have recently designed, developed, and produced media experiences in shows, exhibits, facilities, and attractions for Harrah’s Atlantic City Resorts, Universal Studios Japan, and Disney Creative Entertainment. Most recently they provided all video design and production for the spectacular Fantastic World at Universal Studios Japan, a show utilizing large scenic “floats” covered with LED video displays. They have also been busy providing media designs and plans for several upcoming theme park, resort, and museum developments, and are currently working on projects in Hong Kong, Anaheim, and Chicago.
